Information services and training programmes play a very important role in protecting the legal rights of migrant workers.

This was emphasised by Nguyen Thanh Hoa, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs (MOLISA), at the third ASEAN Forum on Migrant Workers which opened in Hanoi on July 19.

He said the forum is a chance for 100 representatives from ASEAN countries, employers, employees and international organisations to discuss measures to promote safe migration and ensure steady jobs for migrant workers.

Through the forum, delegates will share their experiences, make recommendations for the workers and join hands to safeguard the workers, said Mr. Hoa.

The ASEAN Secretariat’s Director for the Socio-Cultural Cooperation Directorate, Dr Donald Tambunan, said the forum will help promote the ASEAN Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers (ACMW).

This year’s two-day forum has been organized with the financial and technical support of the International Labour Organisation, the International Organisation for Migration, and the Task Force on ASEAN Migrant Workers (TFMW).
